Kids Up Front – put a child in your seat

October 28th, 2011

A little while ago a friend of ours wasn’t able to make it to a game and told us about this great organization called Kids Up Front. Rather than see the tickets go to waste he donated them to Kids Up Front who made sure that the ticket found their way into a deserving child’s hands.

Through Kids Up Front you can put a child in your seat. Whether it be sporting events, concerts, shows or indoor outdoor attractions. If you canâ..t use your tickets, then give them to this organization and they will send a child in need to the event (and yes they will even issue you a tax receipt)

Since 2004, Kids Up Front has provided more than 170,000 life-changing experiences to at-risk children across Greater Vancouver. What a great idea and even better cause 24% of children in Vancouver live in poverty compared to 16% nationally. Without the work of organizations like Kids Up Front, these kids would not have the opportunity to experience their first theatrical production, live sporting event or concert. Get involved and don’t let your tickets go to
waste.

To donate your ticket and provide a child with a lifetime experience, call 604.266-KIDS or

Celebrate 100th Anniversary of – International Women’s Day

March 1st, 2011

When: Tuesday 8 March 2011

Where: Everywhere

What: International Women’s Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women’s Day is a national holiday.

Why: Suffragettes campaigned for women’s right to vote. The word ‘Suffragette’ is derived from the word “suffrage” meaning the right to vote. International Women’s Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women’s success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed. The first International Women’s Day event was run in 1911. 2011 is the Global Centenary Year.

VANCOUVER EVENT:

Saturday, March 5th, a Parade will take place on Commercial Drive, followed by an indoor Festival at the WISE Hall on Victoria Drive in Vancouver.

The Parade will feature women representing different times from the past 100 years. Bring your flags and banners, and dress up. There will be musicians and performers both in the Parade and at the festival. There may be a few floats in the Parade as well.

This event is open to everyone. These events are designed to encourage family participation, and there will be a special Kid Zone at the Festival. There will also be entertainment, a marketplace and food vendors at the Hall. We are counting on everyone to make this 100th Anniversary celebration a success! So come out to the parade, dress up and have fun!

SURREY EVENT

Tuesday March 8 2011, from 430-7 PM

Women on the bridge for peace join us at Peace Arch Provincial Park to celebrate 100th Anniversary of
International Women’s Day. Unite Women of the world in showing that women can build the Bridges of
