The key to a successful residential or commercial move is proper planning. You have a few options when it comes to how you are going to pack all your belongings, used box hunting, buying new moving boxes or renting cardboard moving boxes from moving companies.

1/ The traditional box hunt which involves hours spent scavenging for a hodgepodge of boxes from various stores. This is not as easy as it use to be, since most retailers send their cardboard boxes back for recycling.

2/ Out of frustration many people opt to buy new boxes from local packing supply stores often at mini-bar prices. Did you know that an average moving box can run you between $3.00 – $9.00.

3/ Renting cardbaord boxes from moving companies. Sounds too good to be true? Well it is! In researching this service with a number of Vancouver moving companies, here are some of the head scratching rules we found:

  • You can only use this service if you are planning on using the actual moving company that you rented the boxes
    from.
  • Most require you purchase a minimum of $50.00 or more in cardboard moving box rentals.
  • Deliveries and pick ups are usually offered one day per week. Most will charge you to pickup them up, the cost can run between $25.00 – $45.00.
  • This one is my favorite; the boxes you are planning to return must not have any writing on them, they must be
undamaged with all labels removed. Expect to pay to prices for replacement of damaged boxes. height=”300″ />
  • Expect to pay about $250.00 – $325.00 in rented cardboard moving boxes for a 3 Bedroom House.
  • How do you clean and sanitize a used cardboard box?
  • Many moving companies which offer this type of cardboard moving box rental are primarily motivated with
profiteering from client who think there is value in this service.
  • As an added incentive to use their moving box services many moving companies offer the use of complimentary wardrobe boxes. These are usually delivered to you on moving day. You are expected to empty your closets
into often torn and sometimes dusty wardrobes. Ever heard of bed bugs!

Join the moving revolution and consider using the services of a growing number of companies offering an eco-friendly
alternative such as, It’s Your Move, which offers the rental of heavy duty plastic moving boxes and wardrobe boxes for your next move.
